How might we represent our campus design organization to engage stakeholders?

Invention Corps is a human-centered design club with the mission of making a tangible impact for social good. From its nascency in 2017, our goal was to recruit a diverse range of multidisciplinary members with one commonality – their creative, problem-solving mindset. We taught members the rest by providing weekly skill-building workshops and semesterly projects in partnership with a variety of companies.

This project reflected a formalization in the organization of having a website to present to two main stakeholder groups – possible new members during the recruitment process and possible project mentors from different companies. Our objective was to create a clear and concise way to present the work that Invention Corps has done and represent the community we had built.

I developed a visual analysis of our brand evolution over the years, which we referenced in order to develop Invention Corps' newest brand version. As the classic colors of the organization, red, yellow, green, and blue were retained as the main colors while the art style evolved further.

We iterated through several versions of the site. The inital versions on the right were more centered on a one-page scroll with simplistic additional pages. After the first version of the website was published, we realized that we needed space for more content in order to provide enough information for both of our main stakeholder groups (prospective members and possible project partners). We therefore evolved to the version on the right, which features more art by club members, as well as parallax scrolling and snap to screen effects to optimize the user experience.

The format of the project page was one of our key challenges. We wanted to highlight our use of the design thinking process through all of our projects while still remaining impact-focused. From the version on the left, which included equal focus on all stages of the process, we pivoted to the version on the right, which highlights key points of the process while specifically spotlighting the deliverables. This created a focus on our tangible impact, which we felt was important to give stakeholders a better sense of what each project accomplished.

On our 'Work' project portfolio page, we created icons that would be replicable by future club members for sustainability reasons. We highlighted the deliverables, topics, and tools used for each project card in order to give stakeholders an at-a-glance impression of our collection of work.


For this three-month project, I was part of all three sub-teams: Design, Development, and Content. I took point on the UI/UX design of the site, focusing on layout and steps to optimize the user experience. From the development side, I worked the landing page and implemented various scrolling features in JavaScript. As a founding member, I led members to reflect on club values while encouraging evolution toward a new style.

Working in a team of nine, we were able to push out three versions of this website, evolving each version to accomodate a specific club need each time.
